Our history.
OUR AFFILIATE HISTORY
Wabash Valley Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1989 by a group of passionate community leaders seeking to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the Wabash Valley.
Thirty-three years later, Wabash Valley Habitat for Humanity has expanded and adapted to the needs of our community. Aside from our new construction, Wabash Valley Habitat for Humanity also operates a local ReStore- funds from which go back into our building efforts in Terre Haute. We have also introduced a Good Neighbors - Neighborhood Revitalization Program through which we assist current homeowners with a variety of repairs while contributing to the health of the neighborhoods we continue to call home.
We continue to look towards our future in Terre Haute and the Wabash Valley. The most important part of that future? You.

#HABIFACTS
Since Habitat's founding in 1976, several myths about the organization have taken root. These myths, like all myths, are widely held and as an organization, we work very hard to dispel these myths on a daily basis. That involves talking with volunteers on our worksite and people in our community and educating them about the facts of Habitat for Humanity, or as well like to call them, the Habifacts.
Myth #1Habitat gives homes away for free.
|
#HabifactThe Habitat Homeownership Program is a hand-up, not a hand-out. Homeowners pay an affordable, interest-free mortgage and may help to build their homes through sweat equity or contribute in other ways so the organization can help others.
|
Myth #2Habitat homes are only available to certain groups of people.
|
#HabifactHabitat for Humanity is an Equal Opportunity Lender and a Fair Housing Organization. We follow all Equal Opportunity Lending and Fair Housing Laws and we do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, familial status, marital status or any other protected class. Homeowners must demonstrate a need for improved housing, a willingness to partner and an ability to pay a mortgage.

Myth #3Habitat for Humanity is a government organization.
