2/20/2018: Wabash Valley Habitat for Humanity is seeking a Treasurer to join the Wabash Valley Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors. Members of the board serve in a voluntary capacity and meet monthly.
Wabash Valley Habitat for Humanity is the local Habitat affiliate located in Terre Haute, Indiana. Founded in 1988, we build roughly two houses a year. To date we have partnered with 68 families in our area to build decent, affordable housing. However, the building of new homes is only part of what Habitat does. We recently became a Neighborhood Revitalization affiliate and have committed to completing two Critical Home Repairs per year and a handful of exterior aesthetic repairs in the Ryves Neighborhood. We are also responsible for screening applicants, organizing volunteer groups on our worksite, handling real estate issues, taxes and mortgages, and coordinating all the various pieces of our programs. This work requires a highly motivated board with diverse skills and backgrounds. As a result, one of our major efforts at this time is to augment our current Board of Directors by recruiting a few well qualified individuals who believe in and support the Habitat mission.
A vested interest in Habitat for Humanity, the ability to commit to monthly board meetings, and an interview with our current board members is all that is required to join our board as a member. However, being Board Treasurer is an executive position and as such has more responsibilities.
Board Treasurer Responsibilities:
Attend all monthly board meetings (third Tuesday of each month at 5:30pm)
Maintain knowledge of the organization and personal commitment to its goals and objectives
Understands financial accounting
Serve as Chair of the Finance Team
Manage, with the Finance Team, the board's review of and action related to the board's financial responsibilities
Work with the Executive Director and the Finance Director to ensure that appropriate financial reports are made available to the board on a timely basis
Present the annual budget for board approval
Review the annual audit and answer board members' questions about the audit
Annually donate to Wabash Valley Habitat for Humanity
Please contact Annette Houchin, Executive Director at 812-235-5914 if you are interested or want more information on this volunteer position.
